Dividend yield

Annual dividend per share divided by the share price — the cash return from dividends.
Also known as: Market dividend rate

What it is

Dividend yield divides the dividend per share by the current price. Korean filings report a "market dividend rate" based on the price around the record date.

Formula

Yield = dividend per share ÷ price × 100%. A KRW 50,000 stock paying KRW 2,000 yields 4%. Korean dividend income is generally subject to 15.4% withholding tax for residents; non-resident rates depend on tax treaties.

What to keep in mind

A falling price inflates the yield. If profits shrink, next year's dividend may be cut, so check the payout ratio and dividend history.
