What it is
Shareholders on the register on the record date receive the dividend. From the ex-dividend date onward, new buyers do not.
When
With T+2 settlement the ex-date is usually one business day before the record date. Since reforms in 2023 many Korean companies set the dividend amount first and the record date afterward, so dates vary by company.
What to keep in mind
Prices tend to drop by roughly the dividend on the ex-date, so buying just before it purely for the payout can backfire. Always confirm the record date in the filing.
