What it is
Since 2021 at least 50% of retail IPO shares go equally to every subscriber who deposits the minimum; the rest is allocated in proportion to the amount subscribed.
Example
With 300,000 equal-allocation shares and 300,000 subscribers each gets one share. With 600,000 subscribers, a lottery gives one share to half of them.
What to keep in mind
You cannot subscribe to the same IPO through multiple brokers. When several brokers underwrite, quotas differ, so a broker with fewer subscribers can mean more shares.
